Holiday Season
Surely this holiday season is the time to consider thanks and family. To celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior rather than a time set aside only to eat, drink and buy, buy, buy. I'm reminded of the story of the lepers: there were ten, but only one returned to give thanks for his healing.
We need to give thanks this year.
It seems the church is in an area of drought. It is as if the church body is in a giant whirlwind of sand, and going down for the count. I can see Christ reach down and grab the hand as it sinks below and jerk the body back up to live again.
I believe it is a time of prayer. A time that is now or never.
Who seems to care? We need to wake up. I hate the buying and gifting trap. You buy, you give, you get, over and over. For me, Christ is the reason for the season. Dinner, family and giving thanks. Not incurring debt and dreading January's season of bills. Give of yourself this holiday season. Remember the Christ child, who had nothing when he was born except the parents God chose for him. Remember that child who ministered to the ministers and who still ministers to all of us - when we choose to listen.
Maybe we need to expand on what Matthew 6:33 says. Perhaps we need to seek the face of Jesus and not his hand. We need to seek his ear and listen to what the Spirit is saying. We need to seek the eye to see what He sees and we need to seek the mouth to say what He says.
Stay clean. His coming is close.
Merry Christmas,
Pastor Mel.
